OVERVIEW
Jr. Orioles Cheer is a new addition to the AYS Cheer Program. This team will consist of 4th-8th graders who will cheer for the Jr. Orioles Travel Football Team during the regular and tournament seasons (July-November). Jr. Orioles Cheer will also aim to compete in local and tournament sponsored competitions throughout the season. In preparation for Middle School and High School Cheer teams, this team will focus on Cheer fundamentals, team building skills and promoting community spirit.
TRYOUTS
Registration for tryouts will be available through May 7th. Participants will attend a workshop on May 8th, where they will learn the tryout material and then tryouts will be on May 10th. There is no charge to tryout, but you must pre-register. If you are unable to attend please contact [email protected].
REQUIREMENTS
Travel is REQUIRED for this team. Conference teams include Brownsburg, Westfield, Carmel, Noblesville, Center Grove, Ben Davis and Plainfield. Tournament locations TBD.
*Must be entering 4th-8th grade for the 2024-2025 school year
*At least 1 year of cheer experience (does not have to be with AJAA/AYS)
*Must attend workshop on May 8th, 2024 and tryout on May 10th, 2024.
Try-outs will be held from 6:00pm - 7:30pm both nights, at the Avon
Intermediate School West Gymnasium.

SUMMER CAMP
We will be hosting a Varsity UCA Youth Day Camp for ages KG - 8th grade. The cheerleaders will learn stunting, sideline cheers and chants, jumping technique, and other game-day material from UCA instructors. Fall football cheer season is scheduled to kick off during this optional two-day summer camp on Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28 at the Avon Middle School South gym from 8:30am - 3:00pm daily. Camp will be open to the public and you don’t have to be an AYS cheerleader to attend. Participation by Jr. Orioles cheerleaders is strongly encouraged. The cost is $135 and includes lunch for both days as well as a t-shirt.
PRACTICES AND GAMES
Mandatory Conditioning and Stunt Clinics will be held on June 12th and June 19th from 6:00pm-8:00pm.
Practices will be held every Wednesday starting July 10th from 7pm-8pm.
Games will start in August and will be held on Saturdays. Once Jr. Oriole Football confirms the schedule for the season, we will provide it to parents.

*Please note the uniform for Jr. Oriole Cheer is different from the AYS Rec. Cheer Uniform. Skirts are the same as the Rec. Cheer uniform, but the shell, poms, and bows are different. If your cheerleader can still fit in her skirt, she will only need to purchase the shell, poms and bow.

FUNDRAISING
We understand the costs associated with this team are higher than those for the Rec. Cheer program. In order to assist with the cost of uniforms, tournaments, and associated fees, there will be a fundraising opportunity provided to each member of the team to assist with offsetting costs. Details will be made available once the team is selected.
