2026 Cheerleading (Winter Rec. Basketball)

AYS Basketball Cheer is a recreational program designed for Avon children in grades 3rd - 6th grade. Our program goals are to teach the future cheerleaders of Avon basics, such as chants, motions, jumps, and age-appropriate stunting. We also hope to instill a feeling of accomplishment, team spirit, and good sportsmanship. Cheerleaders will cheer for AYS Rec. Basketball teams throughout their Winter season.

Practices will begin the week of December 1st, 2025. Practices and games will be scheduled on weeknights and Saturdays.

2025-2026 Junior Orioles Softball 12U

Advanced tryout based program for rec softball players looking to play on a more competitive team in a more competitive environment. The team will practice year-round (both indoors and outdoors) separate from their rec teams and participate in more competitive tournament style games. 

This is a year-round program that will begin in the fall of 2025 (approximately 9/1/25) and run through the end of summer 2026 (approximately 7/31/26). The team will participate in the Sunday Alliance league playing double headers most Sundays in the spring and fall and 6-8 weekend tournaments throughout the year.

2026 Recreational Basketball League

AYS offers Rec. Basketball divisions for boys and girls in KG through High School! Additionally, boys in grades 2 - 6 will have the option to register for either the Rec. Basketball division in their grade level OR register in the Rec+ Basketball Division in their age group. Rec.+ is a more advanced league. Athletes registered in Rec+ MUST attend evaluations, which will ensure athletes are placed in the appropriate league based on their current skill level.

By registering, you agree to follow the AYS Code of Conduct. You also agree that your athlete, and anyone you invite to attend our games will also follow the AYS Code of Conduct zero tolerance policy. The Code of Conduct Policy is available at avonindiana.gov/sports under the About Us tab, and then click on Forms & Policies. 

PLEASE NOTE:
1) Basketballs are NOT distributed to coaches. Each player should bring or purchase a basketball to bring to practice. A basketball is necessary to allow each play to work on ball handling drills during practice, allow for extra practice at home, and it is a requirement for every AYS league, camp, and/or clinic. Please make sure to put your name on it so they don't get lost.

There is no charge to try-out, but pre-registration is required. Practices begin in late September and are typically held twice a week. Throughout the season, teams play 25–35 games, with the schedule running through late February or early March.
Teams will compete in the Indiana Ball school-based league and/or the Indy Youth Basketball League (IYBL) to be hosted at UNRNKD Hoops in Speedway.

2025 Fall Lacrosse

The mission of the Fall Lacrosse program is to re-introduce lacrosse to Avon youth in grades KG-8 and help to instill a love for the game in each athlete by:
  • Creating a fun environment for everyone to learn and grow
  • Teaching lacrosse fundamentals to both athletes and parent volunteers
  • Promoting teamwork through competition
  • Developing confidence in athletes by celebrating the process of learning, rather than outcomes or end results


This program was designed specifically to fill the gap between Fall and Winter sports so there is minimal conflict or overlap with other AYS sports programs. The program will run in the Fall and feed into the existing Avon Lacrosse Club teams for the Spring season.

The KG - 5th grade program will use the USA Lacrosse Flex 6 Model of play to teach the fundamentals of lacrosse in a way that is flexible, fully non-contact and fun! Because the program is non-contact, it eliminates the burden of protective pads, equipment, and gear. The only thing needed is a stick!

The Middle School program will transition to standard lacrosse equipment, while still using the smaller field scrimmage format of the Flex 6 model.

Each session will start with skill development and end in a scrimmage game where athletes can practice putting it all together.
